Writer. Redhead. Believer in magical things.

I didn’t know I wanted to write stories until I taught a children’s theater class one summer during college. I was supposed to direct a short play for the kids to perform and couldn’t find anything that worked, so I wrote my own instead. That’s when I found my creative bliss, and I’ve followed it ever since.

I grew up near the mountains of Salt Lake City, but in my adventurous twenties managed to live on both coasts, working in everything from secondary education to film production and freelance writing. I also served up menus at some snooty restaurants to help subsidize my creative pursuits and once tried out for Tinkerbell at Disneyland. (It was a magical disaster.)

My writing journey hasn’t been easy (is it really for anyone?), but the actual process of writing—of imagining and creating and persevering each day—has been my soul’s own steady campfire, gathering me home each night and sparking warmth and brightness into the dark. Writing is my survival in the wild of life.
